Hiking is one of my favorite outdoor activities and I miss the convenience of having easy to moderate hikes 10 minutes away from my place in Los Angeles.

That’s the beauty of hiking in LA, the trails are always a quick car ride away. Parking is another story 😉 My tip for parking is to add some extra steps to your workout and find street parking farther away from the entrance.

Here are my 3 suggestions for easy to moderate hikes if you are visiting the Los Angeles area.

Fryman Canyon

My favorite hike in all of LA! I use to hike this canyon at least once a week. It’s a great 3 mile loop through the hills then a small part of a Studio City neighborhood. It starts with a steep incline but turns into a steady incline for the first half of the hike. Definitely a good hike to possibly run into some celebrities from time to time.

This hike is a great one to check out a tourist attraction too. The first part of the hike is up towards the observatory, if you aren’t interested in stopping to check out the view, you can keep hiking up to the top of the mountain.

Runyon Canyon

Runyon is a quick trail with a steep incline. It’s probably the most intense as far as feeling the workout right from the start. It’s the best view of Hollywood/West Hollywood than the other trails and the most iconic LA hiking shot. You can also get a different view of the Hollywood signRunyon Canyon.img_0061

Honorable Mention: Malibu Creek State Park

The Malibu Creek State Park trail is more flat than incline. There are parts where you can kick your hike up a notch with hills but it’s beauty and solitude are the real winners.

This it the prize at the end of this trail if you chose to go for the actual creek it’s self.

I wish I took more picture of our walk/hike to the creek but this was the only one because it was so hot out that day! However you can get the idea that this trail is more of a walk with certain parts giving you the hiking part.

It always amazes me how close LA is to nature – it’s so easy to think of it as a sprawling city but the hiking looks great. A nice counterpoint to the celebrity and bright lights too. #citytripping

Hiking was one of the ways I could escape the city living for an hour! It is crazy how much nature LA has to offer between the beach and the mountains. Malibu was a huge favorite when I wanted to get away 🙂

I really want to go hiking in the LA hills! It’s so on my bucket list. It’s great how LA has the best of city, mountains and ocean. Guess that’s why it’s so popular! Thanks for linking#citytripping
