We’re talking Hiking today!
Hiking is one of my favorite forms of exercise because you see (hopefully) beautiful scenery while working on your health. I was lucky to live near accessible trails in Los Angeles and they were relatively easy once I committed to hiking every week. In my hometown area I’m lucky to have one of the great national parks in my back yard: The Adirondacks. Growing up my mom would take us occasionally to some of the trails that were close to the village of Lake George. These are the trails I want to talk about today because they are beginner friendly in my eyes. Always remember its not how fast you get up to the top, it’s good to take your time and bring lots of water, sunscreen and energy inducing snacks!
Hadley Mountain is a gradual incline about 4 miles roundtrip. It offers a great view of the Adirondack’s in the Summer and Fall. I’d say it’s relatively easy to get to from the Northway (I-87) and a very well marked trail.
Prospect is more of a direct incline up to the summit and it’s about 4 miles roundtrip as well. You can also drive up to the top of Prospect and enjoy their picnic areas if that’s more your style 🙂 I’d say you would want to be more in shape more for this type of hike because it has a lot of rocks to step up onto when you near the top. I just hiked Prospect this past Saturday and it was so great to get out there and feel rejuvenated after some time in the beautiful woods 🙂
Black Mountain could be considered difficult depending on your exercise level. I think it’s a very gradual 6 mile roundtrip hike with one of the most amazing views of Lake George. In my opinion this hike is well worth the half a day it takes some to complete it. It takes longer to arrive at the base from the Northway (I-87) but overall I think this is one of the more enjoyable hikes in the Lake George area.
Leave a comment below if you have a favorite Adirondack hike, even if it is a drive from the Lake George region!
