3 Things Not To Miss in Florence, Italy

10/25/2016 27 Comments

October is a perfect month to visit Italy! The summer crowds have died down and the winter weather is still at bay, making it the perfect time to enjoy some of Italy’s best cities. Florence, or Firenze, is one of my favorite cities in all of Italy with its beautiful landscape, art, culture and of course the cuisine! Many travel websites and bloggers go over the usual must-do’s in their guides, but since I think seeing the David is a given, I’m writing about three things different things not to miss. Check out these three must not miss activities during your visit to Florence!

Climb the Duomo steps and take in the view
Florence

Now this first one is probably on a lot of guides on things to do in Florence. I wanted to include it because the climb up The Duomo Stairs was an experience in and of itself. It is not for the faint of heart! I felt like I personally accomplished something after climbing those 463 high and narrow stairs because I get dizzy easily and I’m afraid of heights. The view at the top was worth it and I’m not sure where else in the city you could see every inch of Florence from above. If you have the time and you want to experience what those priest’s did all those centuries ago then I highly recommend climbing The Duomo stairs.   82 Florence 85  87

Watch a leather demonstration and shop in the authentic leather shops

Watching the leather demonstration had to be a highlight of my trip because I love a good Italian leather jacket or handbag. It was amazing to see the process for which Italians are so well known for, Florence especially being the leather capital of the country. I recommend Leonardo’s since that was the shop I visited and they had well made bags and coats.

Enjoy a full course meal

There is always wine-Chianti to be exact!

Cheers to every course! These pictures won’t do this amazing Italian dinner I consumed justice, but there is something about fully embracing the Italian cuisine when in Italy. It pains me that I cannot find the restaurants name where I enjoyed this beautiful meal with friends because I would love to give credit where credit is due. However, I feel like there are an abundance of delicious restaurants in Florence to stumble upon while you are visiting. Choose one with all the courses, antipasto, pasta & meatballs and dessert, to truly immerse yourself in the meal.107

Extra Tip-Check out the view from the Piazzale Michelangelo

Over looking Florence

The view of Florence outside of the city is priceless! The beautiful Piazzale Michelangelo, overlooking the Arno River, is worth the drive or public transportation to get there. It gives you a panoramic view you can’t get anywhere else in the city. It’s the perfect romantic spot but can be some what touristy at peak times.

Extra Extra Tip-For a fun bar experience check out the Red Garter

Florence

Red Garter Karaoke Bar

If you are looking for a great nightlife experience in Florence, check out The Red Garter. Known for it’s karaoke and spaceship cocktails (wish I could find my picture), it’ll definitely a highlight of the city.

I might update this one day after my sure return to Florence since it was one of my top two cities that I’ve visited in Italy so far. For now I hope you enjoy my few recommendations on what to do during your visit to Firenze 🙂

Great tips! We were in Florence last October and loved it! We saw a leather demonstration at Leonardo’s too. I ended up buying a purse from there. It was a splurge, but I’m so bad about buying myself nice souvenirs and it seemed like the perfect way to remember Florence. I still love that bag and feel so fancy whenever someone asks where I bought it 🙂

I’m glad to hear someone else went to Leonardo’s too! A real authentic Italian purse is the perfect souvenir, you could easily bag a leather bag here in the states, but it makes it extra special with a story! Do you have a picture of it on your blog somewhere? I’d love to see it!

Florence was by far my favorite city when I backpacked through Europe! Totally didn’t know about Leonardo’s though!! Might be a convincing reason to go back!?

I haven’t been to Florence in years so I think I’m due a return visit when I will make sure I climb the steps of the Duomo – well done on making it to the top. The views are fantastic. #citytripping

Beautiful Amanda, thanks for sharing tips. I wish I could go there in coming time. Your pics of The Duomo Stairs are really interesting. A good lesson or experience for someone with acrophobia like me.
