5 Reasons You Need to Visit Huntsville this Summer

You guys who would have known Huntsville, Alabama was this charming small city southern gem in the Tennessee River Valley?! TBEX was shown a great time earlier this month from exploring the U.S Rocket Center to jamming with some local talent at our evening parties. According to Forbes, Huntsville was rated one of the top ten smartest cities in the world.  Due to the growth in the area the food, music and art scene is benefiting tremendously with some really cool places.

Here are five reasons why I think Huntsville should be on your travel list for either a road trip stop or a long weekend:

The South is known for its hospitality and I’m happy to report Huntsville was no different. Every place I stepped foot into, I was greeted with a smile and a helpful attitude. Even my UBER drivers were polite and friendly, always ready to offer up suggestions for activities, live music or food.

Nicknamed the Rocket City for its close ties to space exploration, Huntsville is home to multiple technology and security companies as well as the U.S. Space and Rocket center.

An interactive children’s exhibit

If you are traveling with kids, this is a must see. It has interactive areas for them to explore space history, as well as an IMAX movie theater to enjoy space films in high-definition.

Check out their calendar of events. The well renowned Space Camp for kids is located in Huntsville at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center as well.

AM Booth’s Lumberyard

Since the city is 115 miles from Nashville, you can expect some quality music at the bars and festivals. TBEX was lucky to be treated to some amazing musical acts each night of our conference.

Indoor Stage

The first night at  AM Booth’s Lumberyard, an interesting indoor/outdoor venue, there were four different local acts performing simultaneously in four corners of the venue. It was epic!

Outdoor stage

The next night at the space center there was an old school jazz band setting the mood called Twickenham Jazz and Swing.

Needless to say you won’t starve for good music in Rocket City 😉

I feel like local breweries are all the rage in every part of the U.S. and Huntsville has a few of its own to wow you with. I was happy to experience Green Bus Brewing and their Hibiscus Pale Ale.
They also had an Earl Grey Tea brew and Serrano pepper brew for Cinco de Mayo that I found surprisingly delicious. Green Bus was one of many breweries popping up all around the city.

If there is a place called The Chocolate Bar then I am there!  There are a few locations but since I visited my first one, in Huntsville, I’m giving this city the credit. The decadent restaurant had everything from chocolate martinis to Cajun pasta to turtle cheesecake!

Coffee with chocolate liquor and whipped cream

Coffee is a treat right? Well the Honest Coffee Roasters made their way down I-65 with a trendy coffee shop on Clinton Ave in downtown Huntsville.

How tempting does that sound? I never knew much about Huntsville at all, but I do love anything to do with space – and chocolate, so that’s a perfect combination. Thanks for linking up with #citytripping
