If you have been around this blog since last year then you know I take a family vacation with my mom’s whole side of the family every July.
It’s one of the best weeks of the year. I love my crazy family. I’m so thankful we’ve been able to carry this tradition on as long as we have. 29 years and counting for me…
We have routines and similar spots that we visit but every year we try to venture out to somewhere new. This year it was the town of Little Compton along the Sakonnet River, but more on that later.
I thought I’d share some pictures to highlight my love for this area:
This view never gets old 🙂
This one either! Why do lighthouses bring that summer vibe?!
Still had two bottles left over from last years wine purchase! I love me some Blessed Blend White!
First lunch has to be a Lobster Roll from Flo’s Clam Shack (more pics later because one lobster roll isn’t enough! ) Found the Keep on Keeping On cups at Target!
My brother requests going to The Red Parrot every year because he can’t wait to get his Rasta Pasta (on the right in the next picture). We usually have a dinner with just our immediate family on the first night; Mom, Dad, sister, brother and significant others. I always recommend this resturant if friends are headed to Newport. The cocktails are yummy and fun and there are so many food options!
I ordered the mahi-mahi stuffed with a seafood mix this year and it was delicious!
The sunsets in the harbor are always perfect 🙂
Time for the family reunion! I have been making Shay’s triffle the past few years.
Some of the men after putting up all the tents for the party. Thankfully, this year we had a perfect sunny day as you can see.
It ended with the most gorgeous sunset!
We try to squeeze in a beach day at Second Beach every year. This year it was soooo crowded. I think it was due to the perfect weather. It’s the perfect beach to bring the family to if you are staying in Newport.
We made a second trip to Flo’s Clam Shack. This RI gem has been on many best travel and food lists such as Coastal Living and CNTraveler. This location near the beaches in Newport is perfect for lunch to sit outside and take in the beautiful coast line. Don’t pass up a chance to order the clam cakes, they are AMAZING.
All the essentials for a lazy afternoon!
Another favorite dinner spot is The Mooring right in Newport!
The fish tacos and joey bag of donuts were yummy apps!
Summer greens salad!
I always like to drink a local beer when I’m here!
This isn’t all of them but I love my crazy crew 🙂
Awful Awfuls at Newport Creamery are one of our favorite traditions!
Lobster Pot time with Uncle Joe!
Give me all the seafood 🙂
And you can’t forget about dessert!
If you find yourself in Bristol, RI (which you should because its adorable and has the oldest 4th of July celebration in the country) come enjoy some wine while taking in the view.
Aiden’s Pub is another amazing spot in Bristol! We go to trivia night for some friendly competition as a family each year. They have great pub food!
The Beehive is another favorite in Bristol for coffee and brunch!
Our next stop is one of my favorite places in the world: Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard!
My aunt started this tradition over 10 years ago where any of the ladies in the family over 21 go and have a beautiful afternoon tasting wines at a local vineyard. The owner of Alex and Ani bought the property a few years ago and really upgraded it’s facilities.
I look forward to buying a case every year! The Blessed Blend White is my favorite right now.
This year we were lucky to have our guide bring out the storied book of smells to help with wine tasting.
To be honest I didn’t know this book existed but my aunt was pretty excited about it. It was fun to guess the different smells and to see if certain ones came out in the wines.
Time for some lunch outside 🙂 More wine and a yummy charcuterie plate will do.
These chicken salad lettuce wraps were so good too!
This view of the Sakonnet point was a new spot we went to explore. I really fell in love with the Little Compton area of RI this year. It would be a great place for a summer home in the future.
The dress was a Nordstrom Rack find!
Our last dinner was at the Portsmouth Publik House where I indulged in this cheesy garlic golden scallop and asparagus dish.
My mom asked me if I wanted a picture of her fish tacos and I said yes thank you haha #bloggerdaughter
I have to get my fill of Newport Creamery when I’m here 🙂
The New England coast line always feels like home
I love the colors, the smells, the people and the food!!
Until next time Portsmouth…❤️
