It was such a fun and relatively relaxing week away in Newport, RI last week. It felt really good to take a break from the blog world, however I did try to keep up with Instagram. I love a good family vacation and the one I take every July with my mom’s whole side of the family is always an epic and unique time. Her parents were from Fall River, MA and they have a family house in Portsmouth that over 30 people descend on each July. While we are there we host a family reunion on Sunday with my mom’s extended family, thats over 50 people! It’s been a really special tradition through out my life and each year as I get older I realize how rare it is and I cherish even more. So thats the why behind my vacation, but today I want to show some pictures to share all the crazy spots and things we like to do EVERY year while in New England.
Mmmm can you taste the fresh lobster?! The second we arrive in Portsmouth we are all ready for our 1st lobster roll. Flo’s Clam Shack has the best ones in my opinion and I try to eat about 3 or 4 during the week just to get my fill for the year 😉
Next up is the Red Parrot in Newport! We love to get there early, get a seat at the bar and order some fun drinks. The menu is really fun and I always recommend any of the seafood dinners because you get yummy rice and fresh vegetables as sides. The lobster pizza and the Rajun Cajun Chicken is also a favorite with the fam!
You also can’t leave the state without trying Newport Creamery’s Awful Awfuls! (Awful Big Awful Good) They are a family tradition and we joke about them all year long. I loved getting the Choc-o-nutter this year because you know how I love chocolate and peanut butter anything!
I will talk about more specifics on Wednesday, for now let’s get to some fun things we do!
The Cliff Walks are a beautiful way to see the ocean and some of the oldest mansions our country boasts, while getting in some exercise. I do recommend going earlier in the day as it gets SO hot easily. Even an overcast day is fine because you can still take in the beautiful cliffs along the water.
The Sakonnet Vineyard has been a family favorite for a decade now and it was recently bought by the owner of Alex and Ani. She has stayed true to the winery while adding some fun decor and events. This is my favorite winery in the world because it’s so quaint and beautiful and offers really great white wine (my favorite).
I’ll have more on this place on Wednesday too!
Here are some candids from the week 🙂
I’ll be back Wednesday with more specifics on how to get the most out of your Newport, RI trip! I loved soaking in all New England had to offer last week 🙂
